it's funny what you get obsessed with when you have time on your hands. my current fixation is putting some of the stock photo catalogs to use by tearing out pages and making origami boxes. the most-wonderful boy works very close to uwajimaya downtown, so i had lunch with him yesterday and bought a book on said boxes. (speaking of boxes - motherload of wooden boxes from boeing today! yay! and an enormous paper cutter so i can do more damage!)

anyway. so, i was sitting at the dining room table this morning trying to figure out how to put this tab there and that tab here and there was a rattle-y noise from the bathroom. there are trucks that pull up to the grocery store (or city busses) that sometime vibrate at the right resonance to rattle things in the house (yes, highly annoying), and i thought that's what it was, but it was a weirder rattle. and it would go for about a second or two, stop, and then about 20 seconds later start again.

i thought to myself, it really can't be the obvious thing that it sounds like. so i went out in the back yard to look at the vent from the outside. and sitting up there all proud of himself was a big fat woodpecker. i told him to quiet down, and in that woodpecker way, he ignored me for another 4 or 5 rounds of pecking at the vent.

and now i can't get the woody the woodpecker laugh out of my head.
