he's home from the hospital. things went well.
thanks to everyone for the good thoughts, it means so much.
sports injuries suck! the official title was a "fluxation of the superficial digital flexor tendon" (the super nice people at JAVMA are sending me some hard to find research info on this type of injury too, how great is that). basically the tendon was sliding around because the soft tissue supporting it had torn. it was a good repair and hopefully in a few months he'll be back to normal. it's at least a month of no activity. fortunately he's pretty good about calming down considering how much he thinks he's seabiscuit most of the time.
he's gonna look funny too - one shaved leg and one partially shaved leg... (the other rear leg has a pain med patch). his fur seems to take awhile to fill in, so we could be looking at summer with a very strange hair style. i'll happily take that though, considering the options.
yesterday was the worst day up until about 11:00pm. when i went to bed i slept with one of buck's toys. and the amazing regenerative powers of curling up with the best boyfriend ever helped enormously.
sometimes i really want someone else to take over for me in my life to handle everything. but today is better.

God bless your sweet fur angel Buck!
Much love and many blessings...............
Great to have Buck home again I am sure
Love Jeanne ^j^
our house is for sale and several buyers have met the overly friendly dog here and they include her in the offers. there could be a dog bidding war.
there are technical issues taking meeka to the artic, as she is part wolf which is an endangered protected species there.
we say that we have a $250. animal repair limit but then we've never been tested on that yet.
if we can or should take the cats is a whole other issue no one wants to face.
Posted by: steve on February 28, 2004 05:36 PM$250? is that a single event or cumulative total? i don't think i'd have any pets left if that were the case. although the cats are reasonably low maintenance most of the time. at least buck's surgery was actually UNDER the estimate. that's a new experience. he didn't succeed in breaking the $2K limit in two weeks, but it was only a bag of groceries or so away.
i'm sorry you are thinking about how the cats will fare, a legitimate question.
and thank you jeanne. :) buck sends a snorfling butt wiggle.
Posted by: rosebaby on February 28, 2004 07:37 PMMy boy, Seven, got attacked in the doggie park and needed stiches. That cost $300 in the afterhours emergency clinic. What is one to do, throw away a dog because he needs stiches. Of course not. While I might think hard about certain procedures, ie a liver transplant or chemo (and I can't know what I would do unless the problem arises . . . I am sure it would have to do with probability of success and pain he would suffer), by adopting a dog you accept certain expenses. I hope Buck is feeling better and has a full and speady recovery. I am sure a young pup like Buck is going to go crazy with a month of inactivity.
