February 08, 2004

many months ago i bought tickets to see anonymous 4 in their last touring season, and we went to the concert last night. it's medieval choral music for the most part. and last night was french/latin songs to the virgin mary. it was really a wonderful thing to see them live, and very easy to imagine being in a cathedral in the dark of winter, in france. however, i'm thankful that i'm not subsisting on turnip soup and worrying about plague. plus my good parking karma kicked in just when we needed it. nice.

we stopped afterwards for beverages and then walked by the magazine stand and the late night bookstore with the cat ramps. in the ongoing theme of people just giving me things, which b. now believes in too having seen it several times - i got a copy of an out of print book that is really wonderful for $11. the girl at the counter saw that the binding was completely coming apart and marked it down significantly. it's called Calder's Universe, and there is a reprint edition available. just lovely. plus b. bought me the copy of nest that i was craving. i'm just lucky all around.

we're both trying to be fiscally responsible, but damned if those design mags don't keep jumping into bags and coming home with us.

What you really MUST have, fiscal responsibility be damned, is Calder's Circus:

An absolute delight.

Glad you enjoyed the A4 show. Spouse-grrl is on the board at the EMG and this was a big deal for them. We saw the "American Angels" program did on Friday night, but gave up our Saturday tickets in favor of the Asylum Street Spankers at the Tractor.

Asylum Street Spankers... that sounds like fun just based on the name. And the Tractor can be entertaining. :)

And yes, I do need Calder's circus. A few years ago I went to SF to see the big Calder show at SF MOMA. It was superbly supremely delightful. And at that were many things I've only ever seen in books, and the film of Calder and his circus. But FYI, that book I got is great.
