we tried to go see lord of the rings yesterday, but as usual, it was sold out. we didn't plan ahead, thinking a matinee on a monday would be safe.
after feeding many tasty quarters to the parking box we realized that in 5 minutes we would be towed due to time restrictions. move car across the street, and off to do downtown things.
i got off easy (alas not really any coin to spend on any fancy business) with a pina zangaro aluminum checkbook cover. groovy and industrial, i started lusting after one this summer upon seeing b.'s. we went to paperhaus, the peter miller bookstore, and peter miller details. excellent shopping opportunities. b. ended up with a lovely leather coat and a fantastic laptop backpack of great style (and great sale).
off to late afternoon beverages, ran into bossman there, a brief foray into expensive shoe land (fortunately they didn't have my size in the shoes i wanted) and return to find a $35 ticket on the car. apparently those quarters weren't enough to balance the karma of being a half an hour late getting back to the meter.
i've never taken vacation to just hang out, i should do it more often.

See, I don't get to spend any time in that part of downtown any more. You know that Far Side cartoon with the large lady getting sucked into the candy shop, desperately trying to hold on to the parking meter? Yeah, that's me in front of Peter Miller and Paperhaus.
