saturday. nearly the holidays.

we got us a new table

Oh how I love craigslist. We have a new dining table now. I love it. It has 3 leaves. Compared to our old one (quite sturdy, but not a great table for any kind of entertaining at all) this is the QE2. It needs some work, but it was priced accordingly, which is exactly what we needed. It came with chairs, which are in the chair-chive in the basement. It goes much better with our current chairs which were from eBay. Now we need to get those refinished and the seats replaced. (We have so much crap that we could almost change out every piece of furniture in the house by "basement shopping"). If you're local and need some kinda groovy mid-century chairs, drop me a note. In any case, I LOVE how this table changes the room, and I love it's lines.

I still love barn tables too, we'll have to get a bigger house one day. I think being at home so much has only intensified my nesting instinct. A vaccuumed house makes me stupidly happy. Monkeydad was talking to a friend on the phone this morning and said "get it all out of your system before you have kids, cause you won't be going anywhere once you do, it's 4am with a crying baby, not 4am fun". Yep. Strangely, it's really ok. It's the next stage of things, and I feel like I started on it very late, and got lots of 4am fun in before changing into mama.

What looked like it was going to be a snow day has turned into sun. I'm moving very slowly today, or my brain is. The small person was up every hour all night. I have no idea why, however, about 4:30 he decided that he would sort of sleep with us, so for the first time I was able to sleep with him in the bed and roll over (mostly I have an arm around him to make sure he doesn't suffocate or wander off, which also means I don't sleep). But getting up and not having more than 1-2 hours consecutive sleep makes me completely exhausted.

I have been knitting again, which is really quite great. I've got several projects going right now and need to get busy with holiday projects again. I don't have a long list, I've just decided that I want to knit the small person a pair of socks every year, and that may or may not happen. I did make him slippers, but I kinda don't love knitting socks. I love *having* knitted socks.

My head continues to pound for no good reason. I'm pissed at the economy, I am really not down with this shit.

When I'm not wanting to curl up into a ball and hide (nothing more dramatic than the above sentence) I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving, and even the holidays. But I look forward now with more of a cookies and pinecones view than shopping and travel view. If you can extract from the shopping crap, winter holidays are a pretty fantastic time for the obsessive nester.
