happy paint

"we" have been painting little man j's room. we means i supervise mr dad. I really love the colors in the house, especially in this shot because the white wall in the living room looks blue too, so it seems slightly more crazy than it actually is.

and unfortunately, that red bathroom will probably get painted a different color soon (the red never cured, so we have a sticky wall a year and a half later... there are about 7 coats of red, and no one wants that much fun twice, so it will be sanded, and then probably something tamer. like a dark sand color with a fancy name).

the pumpkin color (cognac) on the farthest wall was the first major color change in the house. before that it was a rather horrid dark green. that took 4-5 coats to cover. and as much as i love our yellow hallway... i know we'd have to paint it if we move. and it might seem sort of insane after we paint the bathroom a more subdued color.

we've just been picking colors we like for any given space. with less worry about the master plan. i can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

in the meantime, the orange in j's room (benjamin moore "orange juice") is the color of cheetos. and it rocks. the blue alcove will have some kind of mural on it, of a modern and simple sort. it will be the wall where the crib/bed lives.

OK, use something to stabilize the paint on the red bathroom. TSP works well. So does baking soda. Do this prior to sanding. Let dry. This may be a Seattle, rain thing...I don't know. It works in So.Cal. Master plan is not necessary, but Kilz may be. That way you don't have to use 4-7 coats of flammable liquid on your walls. Spoken like a volunteer for my art gallery in college. I believe my messages are generally too long for a reaply on a blog. Any comment on that? : )
