we aren't foodies but our friends play them on teevee
ok, so it was fun to watch anthony bourdain do the PNW last night on teevee. we learned some things about portland. we learned about voodoo doughnuts, and a crazy good sounding pizza place. (douglas are you listening, we must attend next time we're down there). and probably something else i can't remember. oh, right, and fish in the woods. the best part about the fish in the woods segment was actually the huge fish platter that the chef had. but then again, i'm not a fish person in particular.
as for seattle, woohoo, second half, lets get the goods on where AB eats when in town... waiting, waiting... well, apparently he eats dinner with the roving band of crazy foodies who we have thanksgiving with. (ok, about half of them we know or sort of know) that's cool. lorna got a lot of camera love, but how can you resist. she's lovely. (gorgeous asian girl if you watched, and hhlo is the dude in the salmon shirt next to her, one good shot of him at the end of the segment) and the professional chef crowd, and their professional chef spouses. let me be clear, this isn't my thing really, it's all about knowing the foodies. and getting invited to their parties. one degree of separation. so, anyway, after that, it was geoducks in the mud (i really don't like shellfish, so that whole thing was just pretty close to revolting), but yeah, clams in seattle. acres of them in fact... and ending with Salumi... which is indeed a fabulous place, but not a surprise. It's a tiny little yummy spot near where mr. man works. i've only been there once, but it was meaty perfection at lunch time. they also do fancy dinner things, which of course, mr thanksgiving has been to, organized, etc. because he became friends with mr salumi or something.
so. like *so* much in my life.... (seriously) i know the people who do or are, but i'm not one of them. sure i know the godchildren of walter mondale and that other guy, the lawyer from the bill clinton crap. douglas knows everyone, and i know douglas, i used to party with LA people who were, like, bff's with gilda radner and stuff. masie plum chats with all kinds of people at the dinners she does, but it's always one step removed for me.
it's kind of a better place to be. i worry enough about things without throwing cameras or celebrities in the mix. but i can still occasionally tell stories second hand. and watch my friends on teevee.
