that was the splurge. the rest of the silly class action money goes to more responsible things.

and i'm so NOT impressed with the PC version of setting up an airport express. the only word in my head is motherfucker. it's a lovely thing once done, but i'm just short of breaking things. with a hammer.

in other news, hopefully the bathroom will be done very soon. otherwise the house and party guests are going to have to pee in the basement like the rest of us.

power shopping

so, let's see. that other job, not so much. insert long story and personal history and general annoyance and also general appreciation to the universe which has kept me out of something which i knew better than to get into but would have anyway. feh. i don't need to go back to what made me unhappy. it's a long story. i found out a lot more info about the situation. but really, bottom line, i'm more than ok with it. at least at this moment in time i'm not really wanting to go back to the old mothership. for a second i thought it would be good. and then i remembered.

instead, well, i spent the weekend in california power shopping with grace. everyone in the whole world naysayed our plan to fly to san jose, buy a loft that afternoon and spend some time enjoying the sun and visiting with ms uber fab in monterey. oh no, you can't just fly down and buy property in the bay area. for the first thing, you'll never find what you want, secondly, there are at least 300-400 people on all waiting lists for any lofts worth buying, plus it just can't be done. not in two days.

pox on you all. we did it in an afternoon.

we looked a bunch of stuff, but the first thing we saw was right. by lucky stroke of the aligned stars we were able to bypass a huge gnarly waiting list, put in an offer a few hours later, visit some other places just to be clear it was the right thing to do, and wait for the offer to be accepted. which it was. ta daa!

other than that, i haven't stopped moving for almost 2 weeks. the bathroom is almost painted enough (i think it will be 4 coats of red), and once i can breathe then we have to prepare for some social activites that grace has planned before she leaves.

plus the current freelance has me downtown and not in my jammies at home. i keep thinking that any day now i'll be able to do something besides work on the house or work or sleep. it's not happening. i got to knit on the plane, for a couple of stretches of about an hour. which is about 59 minutes longer at a stretch than i've been able to knit in ages.

hopefully i will manage this without my head exploding. some people thrive on this kind of thing. i don't.

quick! to the mini-mart for a lottery ticket!!!!

1. Finally figured out how to do what I needed to do in Illustrator.

2. Software that I've been needing to have work (which hasn't, for quite some time now) suddenly worked. For no apparent reason, maybe it finally just ousted the hairball, but it WORKS. Hopefully this means that I will make my deadlines and the people who are paying me will love what I do and when y'all see it (and you will) I will say "oh, yeah, I did that".

3. Another job offer came in. Doing *exactly* what I like to do, for people willing to give me a desk, money, and with a good cafeteria.

I'm telling you, run, and run now. Play the lottery, there's a short window when the planets are aligned.

super cool loft. :(

you could buy grace's loft.

so. sad. it's the best place in town. it's really cool. you could live there. but we (grace's collective set of friends) have to kind of like you. haha.

awesome view. oh, and you have to have 4th of july parties because that's where we all watch the fireworks from.

welcome to amityville

  1. suddenly we have flies in the house. those jumbo bomber kind. where are they coming from???

  2. the entire house is a mess. every corner. normally this would drive me right over the edge, but i'm too busy to worry about it.

  3. seriously. a mess.

  4. i love office products.

  5. i sent my mother the email about what we want for christmas. the day after she first asked. this may be the first time in history she won't be able to open every conversation for the entire span of autumn with "i still don't know what you want".

  6. whiteboards are really handy. ugly. but handy.

  7. the 2006 architect and designers diary is now available in stores. it's the best calendar diary (in the british sense of the word) ever.

  8. the bathroom is still not done.
